Ph.D., American University (International Economics)

Thomas Snitch is a visiting professor in the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies (UMIACS).

He is also chair of the Board of Visitors for the College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences at the University of Maryland.

Snitch's current research—working with others in the Laboratory for Cultural Computational Dynamics—focuses on mathematical modeling to combat illegal poaching of endangered species in Africa.

He combines high-resolution satellite imagery, unmanned aerial vehicles and predictive analytic algorithms developed at UMIACS to provide useful information to game wardens tasked with protecting the animals.

Snitch received his doctorate in international economics from American University in 1979.
